Art makes more sense when it is connected with the majority of the audience. I am interested in the notion of the people. For this reason, I became interested in Chinese folk art. Lin Fengmian (1900-1991), the pioneer of Chinese modern art, favoured Chinese folk art as his basis in the early Twentieth century. His legacy was unfortunately lost due to Communism. I would like to continue his experiment.
Every ordinary people I encounter has an extraordinary world within themselves. I paint their faces, the portal to their inner world.
Traditional Chinese opera is highly popular among the people back in history. I want to bring them alive in arts.
